Rules

In the MEL, the following apply IIHF playing rules with a few adjustments. The most important rule adjustments are summarized here:

Body contact

Body checks are basically regular and allowed. However, the referees are encouraged to punish hard checks – even if they were allowed according to IIHF rules – with a penalty for "unnecessary roughness". This applies in particular to intentional checks against the direction of travel, at the boards or in the blind spot.

"Old" Icing

The game is played according to the "old" icing rule, so hybrid icing does not apply. Player changes are also possible after an icing.

Running time

The minimum playing time for one hour of ice is 2 * 25 min. + 10 min. warm-up time and for 1 ½ hours 3 * 25 min. + 10 min. warm-up time. (Each running time)

Penalty Min.

If a player receives 3 minor penalties in a game, he is automatically suspended for the next game. If a player receives a major penalty (5+SD), he is also automatically suspended for the next game.

Deadlines for "active" players
